What’s going on at Eagle Platforms?

This week, we’ve been providing…

Access for All!

BLUEBELL WOOD CHILDRENS HOSPICE!

Here at Eagle Platforms Ltd, we are extremely proud partners of local Childrens Hospice, Bluebell Wood. Over the last 18 months, we have been fundraising through various raffles, prize draws and donations to the Charity, along with collections tins at our offices.

We have recently taken this a step further by sending one of our SkyJack SJ45T Booms up to the Hospice to carry out some maintenance work, along with one of our Engineers to operate the machine for them.

Future Millers??

We recently sponsored the Rotherham United vs Leeds United match, and in the process gained two extra fans for both us & the Millers. Our Chairman & CEO, Jim Haigh, attended the game in person, and donated the signed match ball to two lucky lads who’d attended the match that day.

Needless to say, despite the result, it made their day!

Good luck with the football boys! Hopefully we’ll see you on Match of the Day soon (and please don’t forget us when you do!).

Where did it all begin?

Here at Eagle Platforms Ltd, we’ve been asked a number of times recently how the company was started and grew to where we are today.

So here it is…

Eagle Platforms Ltd, originally formed in 1988 by Silverwood coal miner James Haigh and his son, Jim Haigh (Junior) grew rapidly to become a major access provider in the north of England and was bought out in a lucrative deal by the Hewden group in 1996.

The company reformed after an absence of 12 years when Yvonne Abrahams, Sue and Don Horsley and Jim Haigh (now the older generation) eventually commenced trading in 2011, with the same tried and tested formula adding the IT advances in today’s marketplace .

“We pride ourselves in the very best quality training, including PASMA, IPAF and other safety training programmes, always giving the friendliest welcome to candidates at our Anston base and lunch is included!” Don Horsley.

Don has 30 plus years’ experience in the platform rental and training industry.

“Its all about delivering quality access platforms on time, in good order with the highest complement of extras and safety features included as standard.” Jim Haigh.

Operations Director Dan Stewart has developed a fully committed workforce whose collective aim is always to please. From our first year apprentice Jack Ledger to Richard Smith, our longest serving lorry driver / demonstrator, from a fleet of 6 delivery vehicles. Add Hire Manager Charlotte Hanson to Daniel Haigh, keeping the Haigh family connection to the company, and new addition Mark Caine Grierson as Sales Manager.

“We are called upon frequently to offer free advice on the safest and most economical access solution to any job!” Mark Cain Grierson.

“We complete around 600 deliveries and an equal number of collections to and from clients monthly and our record of good timekeeping and prompt collections is second to none.” Dan Stewart.

With a customer base as varied as any, from construction and refurbishment, to shopping malls, steel work and television work, for instance on “Open All Hours,” for their Balby, Doncaster film shoot. It is certainly an eclectic mix of clients and we never know what unusual demand is coming next.

Our main areas of business are throughout the north, midlands and east Anglia regions, though we are often called upon by loyal clients who cannot find the same high levels of service elsewhere, to deliver across the UK.

Now employing a full time team of 30, including service and maintenance staff, backroom administration and sales, all working extremely closely to guarantee the company quality vision is delivered daily.

New NVQ Level 2 apprenticeships for plant mechanics will again be available to applicants from June 1st. The two year course is funded with the help of the CITB and includes block release to college for the successful candidates.

“ We have employed two additional apprentices each year for the past 5 years and believe our policy to help employ in the former coal mining areas including Maltby, Thrybergh, Thurcroft, Dinnington, Woodhouse, Kiveton and Bolsover would impress founding chairman and former mining deputy James Haigh.” Paula Caine Grierson, Finance Director and HR Manager.

Eagle Platforms, already a business partner to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice are delighted to have been asked to endorse Magana Science Park and would encourage any other companies with similar interests in the local community to give their support.

The agreement to become the first Corporate Sponsor for Magna came at the invitation of Magna Science Park CEO Kevin Tomlinson, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Magna, Brian Chapple.

“ We believe the opportunity to give back in a small way to the education of young people at the science park was unique and one we could ill afford to miss. The critical role of Magna, teaching science to local schools in an innovative, creative way, cannot be underestimated!”

“ The chance to increase awareness of our company and its services in the community in the process, means this was beneficial to all parties and an  opportunity that has already benefited the company with further increasing levels of business activity”

Jim recalls a visit to Magna as a very your boy, when Jim’s grandfather took him on what proved to be the best adventure of his young years to visit the plant at Templeborough, where Mr Deakin went to collect his weekly pay packet one Friday in 1966. What he did not expect was to be left watching the sparks, smoke and molten steel poured from ingots passing close by in the noisy melting shop. Jim obeyed Grandads orders. “Stay there and do not move!” Though clearly the wait for Mr Deakin to return from the pub, when he remembered he had left his eldest grandson behind in the steel works, was much longer than he expected.

“ I am not sure what he actually did for work at the steel works but I am sure his contribution was substantial. After all this is my war hero grandad that we are talking about!” Jim Haigh
